Well, the old winter is “nipping at our heels” these days although what a spectacular fall we have had. I almost have all my garden chores done! The beds are weeded and composted and most have straw on them to tuck them into bed for the winter. I would like to get a bit more done in a couple of beds, but time is running out. Because we know what is right around the corner: yep, Christmas!! Pretty soon the mantra will be “are you ready for Christmas?” I always strive to enjoy the season and all that it offers. Don’t forget to find time to relax!!
Here at The Bayside, I am busy getting organized and ready for the Christmas season. I got a good start on having all my greenery and “pretties” available for those of you who like to make up your own Christmas urns, window boxes or other containers. If you want to add something special, I must say I have the best selection of specialty seasonal greenery on the Island!! I love all the textures of the greens: soft western cedar, silvery fir, graceful cypress, stunning magnolia, richly dark Oregon holly – I’m having lots of fun putting outdoor (and indoor) containers together that will brighten up the dark days of winter.
On top of the “Christmas crazy”, it is time for finishing up all the orders for next year’s gardening season: my poor little head is sore trying to figure out how many petunias, pansies, geraniums, tomatoes, shrubs, fruit trees, etc. etc. to order, plus what containers to put all this stuff in! Each year, I think I will get it done faster and more efficiently; however, the devil is in the details. It does take a while no matter how you “cut the cake”. It is my plan in the new year to send out a list of what plants are coming into the garden centre next season – something that you can take a look at early so you can start to dream and plan. Take a look at these links for some inspiration:

If there are any plants, shrubs or fruits that you would like for me to order for you (or you think would be a good addition to our selection), please let me know and I will do what I can. For sure, if you come across something that you find interesting or informational regarding gardening, I always love to learn and share so – keep me “in the loop” – thanks.
Just to let you know (and please share this info when and if you can), we always have a nice selection of fresh flowers in house. We’re now in the swing of making seasonal arrangements – Check out our selection in the shop or place a custom order if you wish. Fresh flowers make a great gift – for yourself or someone special.
Also, if you are going to be in the area, check out the itinerary for the Whycocomagh Christmas in the Village event – If you can be sure to take in some of the festivities! Stay over in our Village – have a fun weekend with us locals!!! Check the facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/events/308326579362095/
Hope your Christmas Season is full of all you wish. Hope to see a lot of you over the next couple of weeks.
