Throughout the months from May to August, the garden centre becomes our main focus of business. Here at The Bayside, in Whycocomagh, Nova Scotia, we are both growers and retailers. We take great pleasure in creating unique and beautiful hanging baskets for the enjoyment of our customers in Cape Breton and beyond here at The Bayside Whycocomagh. We have many sizes, styles, and colors ranging from 8” hanging pots to beautiful 16” moss baskets. We would be happy to help you choose a basket that will suit your needs, whether your location be sun or shade, windy or calm. Each year, we carefully choose a wide variety of bedding plants that include tried and true performers as well as more unusual and hard-to-find annuals. Our staff members at The Bayside in Whycocomagh are willing to help you select appropriate bedding plants for the needs of your Cape Breton garden.
Colours such as red, yellow, pink, purple, striped, orange, & white; shapes such as oval, round, grapes, eggs & plums; tastes such as sweet, acidic, smokey, tart — these descriptions all apply to the wonderful world of heirloom tomatoes here at The Bayside in Whycocomagh, Nova Scotia. We start from seed a wonderful selection of about 25 varieties of heirloom tomatoes – there will be a variety that will appeal to everyone’s taste.

We are proud to say that we have the finest selection of herbal bedding plants in Eastern Nova Scotia. From angelica to yarrow, from basil to tarragon; we have many of the most common as well as the not-so-common varieties of herbs. We have a good selection of herbal containers for culinary use, tea blends, aromatics, etc.

As well, Marilyn is our in-house expert here at The Bayside on the cultivation and uses of the herbs that we grow. Just ask her – she loves to speak about herbs! Herbs hold a special place in her heart and she will entertain and delight you with her knowledge about herbs that will thrive in Cape Breton.

The selection of perennials at The Bayside has grown over the years to include a large selection of hardy plants suitable for our zones. In and around Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, we are either 5(a) or 5(b). We carry a mixture of early, mid, late and continuous blooming perennials; a variety of heights from creepers to tall, stately plants; as well as cultivars that are suitable for a wide range of environmental conditions.

Strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, highbush blueberries, black currants, & rhubarb – these tasty additions to the home garden are a delight. Our latest addition? Haskaps! Our vegetable department here at The Bayside expands each year as the interest from our customers grows. We carry a selection of the common varieties of vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage, & cucumbers as well as offering some more unusual varieties such as eggplant, celery and leeks.
